About Matthew Maag

Hello, my name is Matthew Maag and I am a Graphic Designer pursuing my BFA at Lindenwood University.
After completing my high school, I made it my goal to find something that I was good at doing, could only improve and become happy with as part of my career. It was during this last year of high school at Alton High, that I discovered a career path that could make me happy: something in art and design. I have always had a fascination for art and design in my life, and growing up I would always try to create art from whatever I could find. Paper, sticks, rocks, unused household items, broken toys, and more were used in these creations. It was from this desire to find appealing objects, images, and designs combined with my ability and desire to create that I chose Graphic Design. Prior to taking off for my college education, I created and won the design competition for the school's next agenda cover. It was featured the next school year after I graduated in 2015.
I began my graphic design education by taking courses at Lewis and Clark Community College. Here I began to hone in on some of the technical design programs like Adobe Photoshop, Illustration, InDesign and Animate. These courses and certifications allowed me to create designs digitally instead of physically on paper and as three-dimensional objects. I also developed skills in Web Design and Computer Graphics, which is what I officially received my Associate's degree from this institution.

In the Fall of 2018, I started my BFA program in Graphic Design at Lindenwood University. Not only have I gained more indepth and enjoyable skillsets in typography, graphic design and animation, but I've also been able to develop everlasting connections with artists, other graphic designers, and professors within this institution. The driven coursework at Lindenwood has allowed me to vastly expand my portfolio as well, which you will be able to view under the Portfolio tab above.
My latest endeavors as of the Spring of 2020, include officially launching my own freelance design firm titled Maagination Works Incorporated, constructing a large scale interactive adventure map for an art and design showcase, and looking for my next career adventure in the form of an internship.
My ultimate goal post-graduation is to continue building my creative skills and ultimately end up as an animator or designer within a video gaming company like Nintendo or corporation like Disney, Pixar, Universal Studios, or even Warner Bros.
My Personal Mission Statement
I am brave, confident and resilient and the world of design allows me to channel those three elements like a superpower. No matter the difficulty, scale or price of a new design project, it's an opportunity to help someone else in this world shine bright, be innovative and soar in confidence, too.
